Giving back is the new black
Xcell Academy a Paul Mitchell Partner School ended 2011 with BIG bang! The Future Professionals and staff wanted to give, give more, and then give more, and here is how we accomplished that:
The Be Nice or Else Team went to one of the local Boys and Girls Club to create holiday cheer for over 50 children. They decorated picture frames and sang carols. The best part the Future Professionals said was that the children were super excited about getting to choose between a snowman frame or a Christmas tree frame. The Future Professionals can’t wait to go back!
Xcell Academy’s Student Council took over 400 canned food goods and items to a local mission called the Jimmy Hale Mission. The Jimmy Hale Mission helps support local homeless men in our area and help them get back on their feet. The canned food drive went on for one month.
For Ann Bowler Day, the entire student body and staff went to four assisted living facilities. At each location, we handed out Christmas cards, gave holiday hugs and well wishes, and of course, spread love and cheer to the residents and staff. The Future Professionals and Staff were very touched by that day and want to come up with other creative ways to spread love to them throughout the year.
We also decorated homemade Christmas cards for our men and women service in Afghanistan as well as raised money for supplies for the female soldiers over there. A staff member, whose son is deployed there, that the PX’s were running out of feminine supplies for the women troops, so the school acted.
Also, one of our Core Future Professionals stood up in front of the entire day school student body one morning and told a heart touching story of a family in need due to their child being in the hospital repeatedly, and she wanted to do something. And what she wanted to do was make bows. Not just any kind of bows, but elaborate, beautiful, creative bows to sell them to our Future Professionals and staff. She raised over $100 selling her bows and then matched it! So, over $200 was raised for that family!
At Xcell Academy a Paul Mitchell School, giving back is very important. We can’t wait to give back more in 2012!
